LOCAL EVENTS:

Sunnyvale State of the City – Sunnyvale | September 14th
Celebrate the City of Sunnyvale at the annual Sunnyvale State of the City event, where there will be live music, vendors, and local community information and resource sharing. We will be there providing information on how to protect yourself and your family from fraud and scams, and we hope to see you there! To learn more about this FREE event, click HERE.

Chile, Mole, & Pozole – San Jose | September 15th
On September 15th we celebrate Mexican Independence Day and kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month, which means a lot of delicious and traditional food! Join us at the second annual Chile, Mole & Pozole event at the Mexican Heritage Plaza to learn about traditional recipes and the stories behind them. To learn more about this event, click HERE.

Chalk Art Festival – San Jose | September 21st
Join us for a day of fun as we take over Backesto Park! The Luna Park Chalk Art Festival attracts over 3,000 artists, students, vendors and community members for a colorful day of chalking. The best part is, if you come and chalk, your art will be featured the next day at one of the largest local open street programs, Viva CalleSJ. To learn more about this FREE event, click HERE.

Viva Calle – San Jose | September 22nd
Grab your sneakers, bike, or skates and join us for Viva CalleSJ open streets program. Journey through the car-free streets of some of San Jose’s most iconic neighborhoods and stop by AARP’s booth located at Backesto Park to learn about our local work and efforts to help make communities more livable for people of all ages and abilities. We will also feature a photo booth station for you to snap your image of the day and hashtag #AgeFriendlySJ, as well as an opportunity to spin our prize wheel and receive a fun, FREE giveaway! Thriving in the Job Market
Throughout September, AARP is sharing resources and tools to help you thrive in the job market. To help experience workers and job seekers get to where they want to be, AARP offers expert advice, access to innovative tools, and timely work-related information.

In addition, AARP collaborates with employers that value experienced workers via its Employee Pledge Program (EPP) to create an age-friendly environment for job seekers, and AARP confronts age discrimination in the workplace by being a leader and an advocate on behalf of older workers.

LOCAL VOLUNTEERING:

AARP Volunteer Recruitment
AARP is seeking volunteers for events and education outreach in San Jose and the Greater Bay Area. Event Team members provide support at community functions, while Education Team members give presentations to small groups on topics such as home repairs to facilitate aging in place, caregiving, and job searching in the digital age.
