Webinar Wednesday – A Caregiving Conversation: September 8th
Join us for a Facebook and YouTube LIVE conversation with Tina Wong-Erling as we discuss information and resources for caregivers, as well as an upcoming caregiving conference that may interest you! HomeFit with the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation: September 10th
Join us and the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation for a discussion on how you can transform your living spaces to help you remain independently in your home as you age, from simple do-it-yourself repairs to larger design projects. The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation will also provide fire safety tips to keep burn-safe at home. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Tea and Coffee Tuesday – Learn How You Can Get a Better Night’s Sleep: September 14th
Join us for a conversation with Dr. Cassidy-Eagle from Stanford University School of Medicine. We’ll discuss tips on improving sleep, how sleep changes as we age, why sleep is important for our health, and how to address sleep interruptions. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Chile, Mole, Pozole: September 12th
Join us for the School of Arts & Culture – Mexican Heritage Plaza’s annual Chile, Mole, Pozole. Enjoy an authentic celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring traditional food, unique family recipes, and art that bridges the traditions of Mexico and East San José. Caregivers Count! – A Conference Specially for Caregivers: September 11th, 18th, 25th and October 2nd
Join us for the 11th Annual Caregivers Count! conference tailored specifically for family or informal caregivers who are caring for older adults.  The conference will be held for four consecutive weeks, September 11, 18, 25 and October 2. This year’s conference format will be streamed live via Zoom. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from informative speakers as well as senior service agencies to learn about supportive services in Santa Clara County. Chinatown Rising Screening: September 21st
Join us for a free virtual screening of CHINATOWN RISING. During this special event we will kick-off with a brief celebration of Harvest Moon Festival – a time for togetherness and gratitude. You will then have an opportunity to access a free virtual screening of the documentary CHINATOWN RISING. CHINATOWN RISING, a Harry Chuck and Josh Chuck film, is about the Asian-American Movement that took place in San Francisco, California’s Chinatown during the 1960’s-1980’s. This powerful film captures live footage from the community coming together as it entered a time of transition, as well as intimate interviews with the activists forty-five years later. AARP California-Elizabeth Dole Foundation State Summit for Veteran Caregivers: September 22nd
Whether you’re just beginning to anticipate a need or taking care of a loved one full time, it’s important to find support on your caregiving journey.  Caregiving can tax your patience and foster fatigue, taking a heavy toll on your body and mind.  Join us for an evening of self-care and connection, as you will meet fellow military and Veteran caregivers, learn to identify the causes and symptoms of compassion fatigue, and explore options for prevention and intervention.  Presenters include renowned counseling psychologist and health educator, Mary Ray, RN, PhD; and representatives from the Veterans Administration Caregiver Program, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, and AARP California. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Asian Law Alliance Gala: September 23rd
Join us as we celebrate the Asian Law Alliance’s 44th year of advancing justice, dignity and equality! Asian Law Alliance, established in 1977, is a non-profit organization providing equal access to the justice system for Asian Pacific Islander and low-income populations in the Silicon Valley. This event is donation based. LGBTQ+ Older Adult Survey in Santa Clara County
Are you 50 and older, live or work in Santa Clara County, and part of the LGBTQ+ community? The Office of LGBTQ Affairs wants to hear from you! Fire Safety Tips
Fire season is upon us, and AARP recently hosted an interview with Santa Clara County Fire Department Fire Captain, Justin Stockman to discuss how you can keep yourself and your home safe from fires this season, as well as ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from extreme heat. Visit the AARP Fraud Watch Network at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork  or call the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 1-877-908-3360 to report a scam or get help if you’ve fallen victim. The aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork also offers news, tips, and online learning videos on how to spot and stop common scams.

Caregiving 
AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools. View and download the AARP Prepare to Care caregiving guide, offered in English, Spanish and Chinese at aarp.org/caregiving. The website also features six questions loved ones should ask nursing homes during the health crisis, steps for caregivers worried about the crisis, legal tips for caregivers during COVID-19, and much more.
