AARP in San Jose is here to help you take on October with local offerings, resources and more. We hope you will join us at one or all of the following events!

LOCAL EVENTS:

Preparing for Family Caregiving – Oakland | October 1st
Many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) believe that caring for parents is expected of them. The care of elders among AAPIs carries with it attitudes, beliefs, and practices that can be starkly different from those of the general population. Learn how to prepare to care for your aging parents and others in your community and discover available resources at this workshop. Learn more about this FREE event HERE. Space is limited.

TEK Workshops - San Jose | October 11th
The AARP TEK (Technology, Education and Knowledge) workshops are an opportunity to grow your confidence in using mobile technology to gather information, take photos and stay connected with family and friends. At these FREE workshops, all participants will get hands-on experience with devices, and a free touchscreen stylus pen. We encourage you to participate in both the “intro” and “beyond the basics” courses! Space is limited. Registration is required.

Alzheimer’s Telephone Series: A Basic Overview of Alzheimer’s Disease –Dial-in| October 16th
Take part in three telephone dial-in seminars on dementia care! These FREE remote seminars provide an opportunity to ask questions and hear from dementia experts. Open Garden Day – San Francisco | October 19th
Join us at the Florence Fang Asian Community Garden for their Open Garden Day starting at 11am. There will be live entertainment, delicious food, games and more! The event is free to attend, with a suggested donation of $5. Learn more HERE.

CAREversations are an ideal way to bond with other family caregivers as you enjoy complimentary food and drinks. Heart to Heart Cafe - San Francisco | October 30th
Participate in a day of fun and learning at Heart to Heart Café, where you’ll partake in a card game designed to help you find the peace of mind that comes with planning for the inevitable – end of life. LOCAL VOLUNTEERING:

AARP Volunteer Recruitment
AARP is seeking additional volunteers for events and education outreach in San Jose and the Greater Bay Area. Event Team members provide support at community functions, while Education Team members give presentations to small groups on topics such as home repairs to facilitate aging in place, caregiving, and job searching in the digital age.
