Silicon Valley Asian Film Festival: October 1-10th
Join us for the 7th annual Silicon Valley Asian Pacific (SVAP) FilmFest taking place virtually and in-person! The films selected focus on the rich history, contributions, struggles and aspirations of Asian Americans in Silicon Valley and beyond. Learn more and purchase tickets HERE.

Caregivers Count! – A Conference Specially for Caregivers: October 2nd
Join us for the 11th Annual Caregivers Count! conference tailored specifically for family or informal caregivers who are caring for older adults.  The conference will be held for four consecutive weeks, September 11, 18, 25 and October 2. This year’s conference format will be streamed live via Zoom. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from informative speakers as well as senior service agencies to learn about supportive services in Santa Clara County. Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation 50th Anniversary Gala: October 2nd
Join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARBF). The event includes the unveiling of AARBF’s “Origins of Stop, Drop and Roll” museum exhibit, silent and live auctions and live entertainment. Vietnamese Brain Health Forum: October 2nd
Join us for a presentation in Vietnamese to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and get hands-on tools to help you incorporate recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. Climate Chats – The Future of California’s Drought and Water: October 5th
Join AARP California and a panel of experts for a critical look at California’s historic drought. We’ll hear from the Mayor of Huron, Rey León, and how he has led a small Central Valley town through tough water restrictions. We’ll also hear from Joone Kim-Lopez, the General Manager of the Moulton Niguel Water District, which supplies water to six California cities in South Orange County. Digital Inclusion & Equity for Older Adults: October 7th
Join us as we celebrate Digital Inclusion Month. During this session, hear from Dr. Alison Bryant, Senior Vice President of AARP Research and renowned expert on the impact of media, technology and consumers. Dr. Bryant will discuss digital inclusion and five barriers that need to be addressed to bridge the digital divide for older adults. She’ll also share some of the latest best practices she is seeing from across the nation and the globe. Following Dr. Bryant, the Santa Clara County Digital Workgroup for Older Adults will present highlights from their white paper on the status of the County’s digital divide for older adults.  The paper examines the depth and impact of the digital divide, available resources and their recommendations to ensure that the county’s older adults are digitally connected and engaged. Webinar Wednesday – Teatro Vision: October 13th
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for a Facebook and YouTube LIVE conversation with Teatro Vision. Established over 35 years ago, the Teatro Vision has celebrated Chicano culture and sought to take on issues of the day, encouraging the audience to consider various points of view and nurturing a community of support and understanding. Join us and Senior Planet as we address some of the most common questions surrounding how to choose a new computer, including: Where to start? What’s a reliable brand? How much should you budget? What technical specifications are needed? During this presentation, Senior Planet will also cover operating systems and compare alternatives to the traditional computer, such as tablets and Chromebooks. Intro to Centro – Meet a Community Non-Profit Supporting Entrepreneurs: October 21st
Are you thinking about starting a business and not sure where to begin? Join us virtually on Thursday, October 21st and meet Centro Community Partners (CCP) to learn about their basic entrepreneur program. CCP begins with the idea that all individuals have the capacity to build thriving communities through entrepreneurship, as long as they have access to educational and financial tools that are tailored to their needs. CCP primarily works with women and low-income individuals who possess an entrepreneurial mindset and have skills or experience in a trade, craft, manufacturing or professional service, or simply have a unique idea for a small business. They also strive to support social entrepreneurs. 

Join us for a 30-minute conversation with Centro Community Partners. The program will be offered at 5 p.m. PT in English and at 5:30 p.m. PT in Spanish.

La Avenida de Altares: October 30th
Join us for the School of Arts & Culture – Mexican Heritage Plaza’s celebration of Day of the Dead altars created by local artists along Alum Rock Avenue between King Road and the 101 freeway. Residents, guests, and community members are invited to view the altars and enjoy the variety of live music, food, and beverage tastings that will also be available along the route. AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools.
