LOCAL VIRTUAL EVENTS: 
San Jose Jazz New Works Fest – LIVE Musical Performances: April 29th through May 8th
Join us for the San Jose Jazz (SJZ) News Works Fest featuring four nights of streamed performances by some of the most exciting artists in jazz, blues, R&B, soul and electronic music from the SF Bay Area and New York! The virtual festival will showcase 11 artists over three evenings of music. Tickets are just $10 per night or $20 for an All Streams Pass. Join us for a HomeFit workshop to help you make your home safer and more comfortable as you age in place. From simple do-it-yourself repairs to larger design projects, learn how you can transform your living spaces to help you remain independently in your home. Tea & Coffee Tuesday – Connect with AARP California Special Guests: May 11th

Everyone Needs a Home: Rebuilding the Social Compact on Housing for All Californians – A Silicon Valley Affordable Housing Month Presentation: May 11th
Join us as we host a Silicon Valley Affordable Housing Month presentation focused on the newly released AARP California housing report. In 2020, AARP California engaged practitioners and subject matter experts to better understand the impediments and solutions to California’s housing crisis, as well as where AARP can position its resources and support to effect change. Chinatown Rising Film Screening – A Powerful Documentary that Follows the Transition of San Francisco’s Chinatown: May 26th
Join us for a special film screening of the documentary Chinatown Rising on Wednesday, May 26th from 6:30 – 8 p.m. PT. Chinatown Rising, a Harry Chuck and Josh Chuck film, is about the Asian-American Movement that took place in San Francisco, California’s Chinatown during the 1960’s-1980’s. This powerful film captures live footage from the historical protests, as well as intimate current-day interviews with the activists forty-five years later. During this screening, you will have an opportunity to hear opening remarks from the producers and gain 3-hour access to watch this 85-minute film, allowing you to take short breaks as needed. Caregiving 
AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools. The website also features six questions loved ones should ask nursing homes during the health crisis, steps for caregivers worried about the crisis, legal tips for caregivers during COVID-19, and much more. The Andrus Award for Community Service – AARP’s Most Prestigious Volunteer Award
Do you know an extraordinary volunteer age 50 or older? AARP California is seeking nominations for California’s 2021 Andrus Award for Community Service. This is the association's most prestigious volunteer award that recognizes outstanding individuals who are sharing their experience, talents and skills to enrich the lives of others.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding individuals who are making a powerful difference in their communities in ways that advance AARP’s mission, vision, and commitment to volunteer service and that inspire others to volunteer.

California’s 2021 Andrus Award for Community Service recipient will be presented with the award and a $1,000 check made out to the non-profit of their choice. Review the eligibility guidelines and submit your online nomination HERE. The deadline for the California Andrus Awards for Community Service nominations is July 15, 2021.
