LOCAL VIRTUAL EVENTS:
Tea & Coffee Tuesdays – Typical Phone Scams & Robo Calls: 3.8.22 @ 9 a.m. PT
Join us for Tea & Coffee Tuesday’s as we discuss common phone scams and robo calls you should beware of! We will hear from the Federal Trade Commission attorney, Karina Layugan, about fraud prevention and tips to block those annoying scam callers. Learn more and register HERE. The 16th Annual Chinese Alzheimer’s Forum - EVENT IN MANDARIN: 3.12.22 @ 10 a.m. PT
Join the Alzheimer's Association for their 16th Annual Chinese Alzheimer's Forum. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. LOCAL VOLUNTEERING: 
Join the San Jose Advocacy Team (SJAT) – Apply by 3.25.22 @ 5 p.m. PT
Do you live in the City of San Jose and want to make a difference? We invite you to APPLY to the AARP San Jose Advocacy Team (SJAT). Your voice is critical in the effort to safeguard the programs and services important to people ages 50+ and their families in our community. AARP SJAT volunteers serve as AARP’s local points-of-contact with their respective elected officials and advocate on vital issues that matter most to older adults. You do not need special expertise to join the team – AARP will provide formal training to all volunteers. If you are interested in joining the volunteer team:

  • Consider registering and attending an optional San Jose Advocacy Team Office Hour on March 16, 2022 @ 5 p.m. PT to learn more about the volunteer team and application process. Register HERE.
  • Complete the volunteer application HERE by March 25, 2022.

LOCAL GRANT FUNDING: 
The AARP Community Challenge – Grant Program: Accepting Applications NOW – 3.22.22
The AARP Community Challenge provides small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities become more livable for people of all ages. This year, applications will be accepted for projects to improve public spaces, housing, transportation and civic engagement; support diversity, equity and inclusion; build engagement for programs under new federal laws; and pursue innovative ideas that support people age 50 or older. Fraud and Scam Prevention 
Visit the AARP Fraud Watch Network at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork  or call the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 1-877-908-3360 to report a scam or get help if you’ve fallen victim. The aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork also offers news, tips, and online learning videos on how to spot and stop common scams.

Caregiving 
AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools. View and download the AARP Prepare to Care caregiving guide, offered in English, Spanish and Chinese at aarp.org/caregiving. The website also features six questions loved ones should ask nursing homes during the health crisis, steps for caregivers worried about the crisis, legal tips for caregivers during COVID-19, and much more.
