AARP in San Jose is here locally to help you take on 2023 with virtual and in-person events, local resources, information and more.

LOCAL VIRTUAL EVENTS: 

Drive-Through Shred & E-Waste Event (June 10)
Join AARP Fraud Watch Network, AARP California, the County of Santa Clara Adult Protective Services and the Financial Abuse Specialist Team (F.A.S.T) for a FREE drive-through shred event as we work together to combat fraud and identity theft in our community. In addition to safely disposing of your documents, there will be a second truck on site collecting electronic waste! The trucks will stay onsite for the time scheduled or until they reach capacity. PolitiBeat Presented by San Jose Spotlight (June 10)
Join AARP at Silicon Valley’s first all-day political festival presented by non-profit media outlet, the San Jose Spotlight. The event will feature marquee names in media and politics for exclusive interviews, expert panels, and in-depth conversations at the iconic Hammer Theatre in downtown San Jose. Difficult Conversation: Discussing Money with Your Kids and Grandkids (June 13)
Join us for a conversation with Martin Booker and Mary Liz Burns, Certified Behavioral Finance Specialist, about why money conversations tend to be difficult and how to talk about finances with your kids in a productive way - the do’s and don’ts. We’ll cover the importance of setting expectations and boundaries and how to do so. We’ll also discuss how to teach healthy and practical money management, including a review of popular money management apps. Learn more and register HERE. Senior Safari: Enjoy a Day at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (June 22)  Join AARP California for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo’s Senior Safari series and enjoy a day at the zoo. This program is designed to help older adults improve their health, avoid social isolation, and enjoy a unique environment that stimulates both mind and body. Senior Safari admission and parking are free for those ages 50-plus that arrive before 10 a.m. PT (the park opens to seniors at 9 a.m. PT), and guests are welcome to stay for the day after gates open to the public. Daily Habits for Better Brain Health with Sarita (June 23)
Join AARP California for a brain health workshop led by volunteer expert, Sarita Cardozo. Discover how living an active life – by learning more, being social, staying fit, eating right, sleeping better, and managing stress – is our best bet for maintaining our brain health. This session is a good overview for anyone interested in improving their brain health and will provide you with actionable steps you can take. Learn more and register HERE. Let’s Take it Outside™: Salesforce Park & Transit Center (June 28)
Join AARP California and the Transbay Joint Powers Authority to learn about Salesforce Park, one of San Francisco’s outdoor jewels that sits atop a bus transit center. Located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, this 5.4-acre park offers 13 unique botanical gardens, a walking trail, and an amphitheater, all of which serve as a center for sustainable urban respite to locals and visitors from afar. It is also home to the ‘bus fountain’ that is one of the world’s longest water artworks designed to reflect the flow of the busses that operate in the transit center below it. This event is part of AARP California’s Let’s Take it Outside™ series that allows participants to learn about and explore various outdoor public places and spaces.
