AARP in San Jose is here locally to help you take on 2022 with virtual events, local resources, vaccine information and more.
 
LOCAL VIRTUAL EVENTS: 
Avenidas Lunar New Year – Year of the Tiger Virtual Celebration: 2.2.22 @ 10 a.m. PT
Join us and Avenidas Chinese Community Center for festive virtual performances, stories, food focused conversations, virtual door prizes (ages 50+ only) and MORE! This event will be hosted on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. PT in both Mandarin and English. To learn more and register, email accc@avenidas.org. Step Up, Step Out & Soul Step – Tea & Coffee Tuesday: 2.8.22 @ 9 a.m. PT
Grab a cup of joe and join us for a virtual chat about reaching optimal wellness. Erich ‘Coach E’ Nall of the LA Soul Steppers will walk us through steps to reach physical, mental and social well-being. Learn more and register HERE. Valentine’s Day Virtual Card Writing Event: 2.10.22 @ Noon PT
Join the 2022 California Cupid Crew and send some love this Valentine's Day! Together, we will create and send heartfelt cards to older adults who may need a little extra love this Valentine’s Day. This virtual program will be an interactive session where we will write our cards together, learn about local resources, and share fun stories. The first 75 people to register by January 28th will receive a card kit for the program. You will still be able to register for the event after the 28th but will have to use your own cards or download and print the online version. Learn more and register HERE. Yu-Ai Kai 48th Anniversary Fundraising Bento: 2.16-17.22
Join Yu-Ai Kai for their 48th Anniversary Fundraising Bento. The celebration will be hosted in the spirit of Yu-Ai Kai’s frog symbol (a symbol of change and adaptation) and 'Kaeru' - a safe return 'home' to on-site programs and services, as well as renewed prosperity for members and the community. For this special 48th Anniversary Bento, Chef Royce Mori is creating two bento options to take home and enjoy in the safety of your own. Learn more and purchase tickets HERE.

Chinese Lunar New Year HomeFit Celebration & Workshop: 2.16.22 @ Noon PT
Join us as we celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year and the Year of the Tiger! Learn more about the custom of hanging lanterns, as well as tips from AARP's HomeFit guide to help you keep your home safe and sound this year. The first 88 people to register by Friday, January 28, 5pm PT will be sent an activity packet to compliment the program. Caregiving in the New Year: 2.17.22 @ Noon PT
Join us for a conversation with a panel of experienced caregivers and learn their tips for balancing caregiving and cultural obligations - particularly those relevant to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities - as we enter the new year! Downsizing & Decluttering Workshop: 2.18.22 @ Noon PT
Join us for a Downsizing & Decluttering: You Can’t Take It With You workshop. This engaging presentation explores why stuff is so important for some people and teaches practical, easy-to-follow tips on downsizing and decluttering. Learn more and register HERE. Fraud and Scam Prevention 
Visit the AARP Fraud Watch Network at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork  or call the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 1-877-908-3360 to report a scam or get help if you’ve fallen victim. The aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork also offers news, tips, and online learning videos on how to spot and stop common scams.

Caregiving 
AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools. View and download the AARP Prepare to Care caregiving guide, offered in English, Spanish and Chinese at aarp.org/caregiving. The website also features six questions loved ones should ask nursing homes during the health crisis, steps for caregivers worried about the crisis, legal tips for caregivers during COVID-19, and much more. Individuals taking care of a loved one can also call the AARP Caregiver Support Line at 877-333-5885.
