AARP in San Jose is here to help you take on August with local offerings, resources and more. We hope you will join us at one or all of the following events!

LOCAL EVENTS:

TEK Workshops – Sunnyvale | August 9th
The AARP TEK (Technology, Education and Knowledge) workshops are an opportunity to grow your confidence in using mobile technology to gather information, take photos and stay connected with family and friends. At these FREE workshops, all participants will get hands-on experience with devices, and a free touchscreen stylus pen. We encourage you to participate in both the intro and beyond the basics courses if you would like! Space is limited.

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Workshop and Resource Fair – Sunnyvale | August 17th
The “Small Homes, Big Impact: Accessory Dwelling Unit Workshop and Resource Fair,” hosted by Housing Trust Silicon Valley and AARP, will provide homeowners with the opportunity to learn everything there is to know about building an ADU and the benefits ADU’s offer.
This event includes a full-day instructional workshop, followed by a resource fair where you can meet with ADU practitioners and community organizations working on housing. Learn more and register for this FREE event HERE.

CAREversation – San Jose | August 17th
CAREversations are an ideal way to bond with other family caregivers as you enjoy complimentary food and drinks. At this workshop, you will learn how to build a caregiver support network, tips to care for yourself, and where to find local resources. Learn more and register for this FREE event HERE.

Senior Safari – San Jose | August 22nd
Come get your steps in, while enjoying the beautiful, animal friendly Happy Hallow Park & Zoo. Visitors age 50 and up are invited to take over San Jose’s iconic zoo in a kid-free environment! Parking and admission are FREE to guests who arrive before 10 a.m. Learn more about this event HERE.

Silicon Valley Pride – San Jose | August 24th & 25th

AARP will be at the Silicon Valley Pride LGBTQ Festival – will you? Stop by our booth, located in Plaza de César Chávez Park, on Saturday, August 24th from 4-11pm and Sunday, August 25th from 12-6pm. We’ll be there sharing information on caregiving and providing fun giveaways, as well as an opportunity to snap a photo with our giant rainbow unicorn! Learn more about this FREE event HERE.

Pride 2018

Senior Agenda Network – Campbell | August 28th
Twice a year, the Seniors’ Agenda Network Summit brings together nearly 200 professionals, aging advocates, and elected officials to actively engage in meaningful learnings to strengthen the older adult community. This year, the summit will focus on issues relevant to LGBTQ older adults. Come hear from experts as we dive deep into issues unique to the LGBTQ older adult population. Northside Night Market – San Jose | August 31st
Kick back and relax in the park, while enjoying live music and meeting your Backesto Park neighbors. Join us at Northside Night Market and stop by our booth to learn about our local work and connect with San Jose staff and volunteers. Learn more about this FREE AARP sponsored event series HERE.

LOCAL VOLUNTEERING:

AARP Volunteer Recruitment
AARP is seeking volunteers for events and education outreach in San Jose and the Greater Bay Area. Event Team members provide support at community functions, while Education Team members give presentations to small groups on topics such as home repairs to facilitate aging in place, caregiving, and job searching in the digital age.
