LOCAL EVENTS: 

Brain Health Workshop – Learn the Six Pillars of Brain Health and Hear from Avenidas Rainbow Collective: August 6th @ Noon PT
It’s never too late to focus on your brain health! In this interactive session you will learn about the six pillars of brain health, activities that support brain health, and hopefully be inspired by others. The Avenidas Rainbow Collective will also provide an overview of their Song Appreciation Group and other activity groups that can help you stay active and engaged. Learn more and register HERE. Webinar Wednesday – A LIVE Conversation with Musician Tony Lindsay – former lead vocalist for Santana: August 11th @ 12:30 p.m. PT
Join us for a Facebook and YouTube LIVE conversation with musician Tony Lindsay in advance of his LIVE performance at San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, sponsored by AARP California. After 25 years as the lead vocalist for Santana, Tony Lindsay has garnered 11 Grammy awards, traveled on several world tours and recorded on seven CDs.  Tune-in to AARP California’s Facebook page or YouTube channel at 12:30 p.m. PT on Wednesday, August 11th or watch the recording anytime thereafter. You won’t want to miss this exciting interview! Join AARP and Silicon Valley PRIDE as we celebrate the annual Silicon Valley LGBTQ+ Parade and Festival August 28-29, 2021 in Downtown San Jose.  This year’s theme is “Standing for Love and Liberation.” Learn more HERE.  

A Caregiver

[Save the Date] Caregivers Count! – A Conference Specially for Caregivers: September 11th, 18th, 25th and October 2nd
Join us for the 11th Annual Caregivers Count! conference tailored specifically for family or informal caregivers who are caring for older adults. The conference will be held for four consecutive weeks, September 11, 18, 25 and October 2. This year’s conference format will be streamed live via Zoom. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from informative speakers as well as senior service agencies to learn about supportive services in the County. Learn more HERE. Fire Safety Tips
Fire season is upon us, and AARP recently hosted an interview with Santa Clara County Fire Department Fire Captain, Justin Stockman to discuss how you can keep yourself and your home safe from fires this season, as well as ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from extreme heat. Fraud and Scam Prevention 
Visit the AARP Fraud Watch Network at www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork  or call the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline at 1-877-908-3360 to report a scam or get help if you’ve fallen victim. The aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork also offers news, tips, and online learning videos on how to spot and stop common scams.

Caregiving 
AARP supports millions of family caregivers by providing free resources and tools. View and download the AARP Prepare to Care caregiving guide, offered in English, Spanish and Chinese at aarp.org/caregiving. The website also features six questions loved ones should ask nursing homes during the health crisis, steps for caregivers worried about the crisis, legal tips for caregivers during COVID-19, and much more. Individuals taking care of a loved one can also call the AARP Caregiver Support Line at 877-333-5885.
