AARP Illinois Statement on Gov. Pritzker's State of the State

Posted on 01/29/20

From Bob Gallo, AARP Illinois State Director:

“On behalf of our 1.7 million members across Illinois, AARP Illinois commends Governor Pritzker for showing his strong support for issues that are most pressing to those 50+ and their families.

The new insulin monthly price cap mentioned by Gov. Pritzker was a strong step, and we look forward to working with the Governor to achieve further reforms that will lower the cost of prescription drugs for everyone.

Those 50+ in Illinois have made clear to us one of their top concerns is taxes in Illinois, in particular property taxes, which must be lowered equitably and affordably. Another top concern of those 50+ is corruption, and we agree it’s time to crack down, take a stand and restore the public trust.

AARP Illinois is also grateful for Governor Pritzker’s commitment to putting consumers first in any energy legislation and in expanding broadband access to all parts of the state.

Those 50+ in Illinois expect action and are watching Illinois’ elected officials’ commitment to addressing these issues. They are concerned about the well-being of themselves and their families and they are depending on leaders to address their concerns.

AARP Illinois is committed to working with the Governor and other elected officials to find policies and solutions to address these critical issues in the year ahead.”
