AARP Idaho Announces New Driver Safety State Coordinator

Posted on 11/28/22

AARP Idaho is pleased to welcome Nels Jensen of Idaho Falls, as the new state coordinator of the Driver Safety Program in Idaho. As state coordinator, Jensen will organize and oversee all of the volunteer driver safety instructors who teach courses in cities and towns across the Gem State. Jensen has been an AARP Driver Safety volunteer for the past 3 years.

Nels has enjoyed a vibrant career, which began in the United States Navy nuclear propulsion program, and culminated in his working as a consultant to a wide variety of clients in the U.S. nuclear industry. Throughout his career, he has gained valuable professional expertise and experience in reactor and non-reactor nuclear facility operations and maintenance, training, regulatory and safety oversight, and personnel and project management. Mr. Jensen has found great professional satisfaction as a contributing member of multi-disciplinary teams performing support work for nuclear facilities in both the government and the private sector.

About Driver Safety
In addition to the classroom, the Driver Safety course is also offered online, which makes it more accessible and appealing to the active and busy lifestyles of today’s course participants. It is also recognized as an approved accident prevention course for all drivers by the Idaho Transportation Department. By enrolling in this course, drivers of all ages may receive a three-point reduction from their driving record every three years or insured drivers age 55 and older may be eligible for an appropriate reduction in automobile insurance premium charges after completing this course.

AARP’s Driver Safety Program was created in 1979 to help older drivers adjust to age-related and cognitive physical changes. The program teaches participants how to adjust their driving in response to these changes.
