AARP Georgia Capitol Day 2020
On Jan. 30, AARP Georgia volunteers and staff traveled to the Georgia State Capitol Day to advocate for the Virtual Visitation Bill (HB 849).
The Virtual Visitation Bill gives nursing home residents and their family members the ability to install a monitoring device in the resident’s room, allowing family members to be a part of their loved one’s care team.
AARP Georgia volunteers spoke with their respective legislators to advocate for the Virtual Visitation Bill and explain why the bill is important. Afterward, the volunteers reconvened for a session with Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick, Rep. Demetrius Douglas, and Sen. Renee Unterman.
Sen. Kirkpatrick received the 2019 AARP Capitol Caregiving award for her work on the Interstate Licensure Medical Compact. The Interstate Licensure Medical Compact will increase access to quality health care for Georgians.
Virtual Visitation Bill Sponsor, Rep. Douglas, thanked the AARP Georgia volunteers for coming to the Georgia State Capitol and advocating for the Virtual Visitation Bill.
“You guys are showing up and making a difference,” Douglas said. “Your presence today at the Capitol has meant so much for me.”
