AARP Foundation Announces Relief Fund to Support Victims of Hurricanes Ian

Posted on 09/30/22 by AARP Florida

AARP Foundation today announced a relief fund to support victims of Hurricanes Ian and Fiona. AARP Foundation and AARP will match contributions, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000,000. One hundred percent of all funds will be directed to organizations providing relief and assistance to those in need.

Hurricane Ian struck Florida as a Category 4 storm, with catastrophic storm surges, 150 mph winds and relentless downpours, leaving behind widespread destruction and millions of homes and businesses without power. More than two weeks after Hurricane Fiona wreaked havoc across Puerto Rico, hundreds of thousands of residents are still without power.

“September was a devastating month for millions of people, but especially vulnerable older adults who were already facing hardships before disaster struck,” said AARP Foundation Interim President Emily Allen. “Families and communities will face enormous challenges in the weeks and months ahead as they recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Fiona. We are inspired by the generosity of our donors and their critical support to help us make a difference in the lives of those who need us most right now.”

AARP Foundation is currently accepting tax-deductible donations through its secure website. To donate or learn more about AARP Foundation’s Hurricane Relief Fund, visit www.aarp.org/disasterrelief/.
