AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson issued this statement today about the impact of Hurricane Dorian on The Bahamas:

“The thoughts of AARP Florida members and millions of other Floridians are with the people of The Bahamas as they start their long journey toward recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian. This journey will not be easy and it will take years.”

“Floridians and Bahamians have been neighbors and friends for centuries. AARP urges older Floridians to reach out to reputable relief and charitable organizations that are working to assist Bahamian residents in this difficult time.”

“There are many local, national and international options to support recovery and rebuilding. One organization that has prepared information on a range of ways to help is https://miamifoundation.org/reliefresources/ .”

“Unfortunately, in addition to good faith efforts to help, there are invariably scammers and impostors.
