AARP Florida Sponsors Older Adult's Softball Club, Gulfport Boomerangs
AARP Tampa Bay is now a proud sponsor of the Gulfport Boomerangs, a local recreational softball club for older adults age 55 plus.
The 2022 season kicks off on April 2 at 8 a.m. ET, at Hoyt Field in Gulfport, marking the club’s 50th Anniversary. Mayor Samuel Henderson will be in attendance for the season-opening and is set to throw the first pitch and proclaim the day as Gulfport Boomerang Day.
The Gulfport Boomerangs Club is a great way for older Floridians to stay active and welcomes all levels of mobility and has adapted the gameplay to encourage more participation. Through increasing the number of infielders to six and outfielders to four, players with varying ranges of physical condition and movement can participate. Additionally, pinch runners are available when needed, there is no infield fly rule, base positions can be adjusted, and more.
Pick-up games are held several times during the week and everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the fresh air while experiencing the comradery of organized sports.
