AARP El Paso throws a colorful Piñata Party to celebrate Social Security’s 90th anniversary!
The Texas Culinary Institute buzzed with laughter, music, and community spirit as guests enjoyed a festive dinner, lively mariachi tunes, and a special moment—the Star on Franklin Mountain turned bright red to honor Social Security’s promise to generations of Americans.
The evening featured remarks from El Paso Associate State Director Liliana Mireles, Executive Council President Charlotte McKenzie, State Director Lisa Rodriguez, and Executive Council Member Dorothy “Sissy” Byrd.
Special guest U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar reminded everyone why Social Security matters—it supports millions of Americans, including more than 146,000 El Paso residents who count on it for retirement, disability, and survivor benefits.
As part of AARP’s national campaign to protect Social Security, the celebration spotlighted its incredible track record: 90 years without missing a single payment, serving nearly 69 million Americans today, and backed by over 183 million workers investing in its future.
This was a party with a call to action. Everyone was asked to pledge to join the fight to save Social Security. With Social Security’s long-term stability at risk, now is the time to speak up and urge lawmakers to keep this vital program strong for today’s families and future generations. Join the fight here: Pledge to Fight for Social Security AARP.
