AARP Colorado, History Colorado offer curated tour October 11
AARP members and their guests can tour a new exhibition with History Colorado’s curator of Latino, Hispano and Chicano Heritage and Culture, Lucha Martínez de Luna, this fall.
De la Tierra: Reflections of Place in the Upper Río Grande opened in August and highlights multiple generations of families and communities with ties to early Hispano settlement who played a role in shaping the region’s cultural identity.
“Touring this exhibit with a curator will be a special experience,” Dr. Marissa Volpe, AARP Colorado director of outreach, said. “Through art, we can understand our state’s history and culture.”
The free tour is scheduled for October 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. Tickets are limited and require sign up. Visit History Colorado* to register for the tour. Each registrant is limited to two tickets.
The event is scheduled toward the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Volpe said, “De la Tierra provides the perfect chance to celebrate Hispanic heritage and the role Hispanic and Latino people played in shaping the Colorado we know and love today.”
