AARP Celebrates Women’s History Month with Penn Asian Senior Services
AARP Pennsylvania recently participated in the Penn Asian Senior Services History Month Celebration and Primary Care Ribbon Cutting.
Held at PASSi’s campus in North Philadelphia, the event was meant to commemorate and honor women who have made contributions to our city, state, and country. AARP PA was on hand as a sponsor and partner to support PASSi as they opened a new healthcare services center.
In collaboration with the Governor's Advisory Commission on Women and PA Secretary of Aging, Mr. Jason Kavulich, PASSi Women's History Month event featured the presentation of the Governor's Proclamation of Women's History Month in PA, followed by a special recognition of guest of honor, Speaker of the PA House, Representative Joanna McClinton.
“Back in the 1940s, AARP’s visionary founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus set out to improve the lives of older Americans after finding a retired teacher living in an abandoned chicken coop. Today, AARP continues this tradition with our advocacy work across the U.S., and remembers Dr. Andrus’ teachings as we do,” said Yocasta Lora, Associate State Director of Community Outreach at AARP Pennsylvania. “March is a special time of year dedicated to teaching and celebrating how women continue to shape our country and our Commonwealth. There are so many fantastic women that can be lifted up to inspire us all, and we are proud stand beside PASSi as they honor Pennsylvania House of Representatives Speaker Joanna McClinton, Pennsylvania’s first woman speaker of the House, and the historic number of women holding office today.”
PASSi, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the largest provider of culturally-attuned services for Asian seniors and other older adults with limited English proficiency in Southeastern PA.
