AARP Wyoming invites all candidates for Wyoming’s national, state, and local political offices to take part in a webinar at 10 a.m. on June 18, to discuss the power of the age 50+ vote in Wyoming, as well as the priorities of AARP Wyoming during the 2020 election cycle.

“AARP has a large constituency in the state and during election years we are commonly contacted by candidates for political office asking for AARP’s priorities,” says AARP State Director Sam Shumway. “This year we thought we would make it easy and reach out to all those who are running for office to let them know, proactively, how to reach out to the state’s age 50+.”

Voter turnout in Wyoming has traditionally seen higher numbers in the state’s citizens age 50 and over. During the 2018 midterm election, over 77 percent of Wyomingites between the ages of 70-79 voted, with 68 percent of eligible voters between 60-69 going to the polls in 2018. That compares to 19 percent of those ages 18-24 and 23 percent of those 25-29 in 2018.

AARP is a 501(C)4, non-profit, membership organization, which advocates on behalf of those age 50 and over. AARP is a non-partisan organization, which does not endorse candidates or donate to the campaigns of candidates at any level of government. There are 83,000 members of AARP Wyoming with every congressional and legislative district represented. To see membership numbers by legislative district in Wyoming, click here.

AARP Wyoming claims 83,000 members in the State of Wyoming and 38 million nationally.
