AARP AZ Statement on ACC Order in APS Rate Case (Docket #: E-01345A-19-0236)

Posted on 11/03/21

“AARP Arizona is thrilled the Arizona Corporation Commission adopted our recommendations in the APS rate case order issued today. AARP Arizona has been focused on the issues surrounding the previous rate case, which was issued in 2017. AARP Arizona felt strongly enough during those proceedings to be one of only two groups to refuse to sign on to the settlement agreement. With today’s decision, AARP has been vindicated in our decision, and glad to know that then and now we will always fight for the 50+” Dana Kennedy, State Director for AARP Arizona said.

Among the things that AARP fought for during these proceedings were:

  • Overall electric rate reduction of $120 million annually for APS customers
  • The time-of-use (TOU) rate plan will have its peak period shortened from 3:00-8:00pm to 4:00-7:00pm
  • Fixed charges for most rate plans will not increase
  • Simpler, easier-to-understand, set of electric rate plan choices
  • All residential customers will have total choice among all of the available rate plans when they move into APS territory
  • No deregulation due to the evidence that it only hurts consumers while not reducing price

“AARP thanks the Arizona Corporation Commissioners for their willingness to hear the perspective of the 50+ in Arizona. We truly believe that this order will be critical in helping to keep Arizonans safe and healthy.”
