Start volunteering now, just click here.
Did you know - According to a 2022 report released by the Alzheimer's Association, “By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer's or dementia is projected to reach 12.7 million.” As of 2020, here in the Grand Canyon State, 150,000 individuals ages 65 and older were reported as having Alzheimer's.
Give back to those in need. A Memory Café is a warm, welcoming environment for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. They are designed to include caregivers as well (if they are involved), for a shared experience. Additionally, they are helpful for people with all forms of mild cognitive impairment. Each Memory Café is unique, they focus on different aspects to create a distinctive experience for the individual with cognitive decline and their loved ones. Some Memory Cafés invite guest artists or musicians to attend, some offer education about memory changes, while others are just for relaxing and chatting
No experience necessary. We train you. Volunteer tasks include welcoming guests, mingling, registration, taking coats, etc. Volunteers are NOT expected to help guests with any personal care, such as assistance in walking or using the restroom. The most critical task is helping make the guest feel welcomed and comfortable.
You Are Invited – If you are interested, please connect with AARP Arizona Associate State Director, Aaron Wodka, at awodka@aarp.org or via phone at 520-730-1130 to learn more about giving back to your community and making Pima County dementia friendly!
