Longtime Activist to Lead AZ Volunteers and Board

AARP Arizona is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Lunsford as State President. Lunsford replaces Joseph Marquart as State President after a two-year term and Interim President Frank Soto. We thank Mr. Soto for stepping in, while the position was filled.

This high-level volunteer position offers opportunities for making a positive difference in the lives of Arizonans 50-plus.

The AARP Arizona State President:

  • Serves as Chair of the AARP Arizona Executive Council, an all-volunteer committee that advises and helps set strategic direction for the AARP state office.
  • Partners with the AARP Arizona State Director, and works with staff and volunteers to help achieve AARP's vision, mission and strategic priorities in Arizona.
  • Acts as the principal volunteer spokesperson for AARP Arizona, communicating AARP's messages statewide.
  • Builds networks and partnerships with organizations and key Arizona decision-makers that will endure long after his/her term in office.

“The State President plays a leadership role within AARP Arizona’s volunteer network, and also works closely with staff in our office,” said Dana Marie Kennedy, AARP Arizona State Director. “We are thrilled to have Jack Lunsford as our State President. Jack is very well known in Arizona and will bring new ideas that will help us achieve our goals through 2026 and beyond.”

With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Mr. Lunsford brings unparalleled expertise and a proven track record in various fields, including P-20 education, transportation, economic development, local government, property taxation, workforce development, and healthcare. As State President, Mr. Lunsford will continue to champion the interests of Arizona’s older adults, advocate for positive change, and enhance the quality of life for all. We are confident that his visionary leadership will make a lasting impact on our community. Please join us in welcoming Jack Lunsford to this vital role within AARP Arizona.

Welcome Jack Lunsford.
