AARP Alaska Announces Four-Part Webinar Series for Veterans During First Four Weeks of May

AARP Alaska is offering a four-part webinar series for Veterans on VA benefits and healthcare, long-term care services, caregiver supports and fraud prevention on Tuesdays in May from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“AARP Alaska is on a mission to support the nearly 40,000 veterans across the state,” said Teresa Holt, AARP Alaska State Director. “The AARP webinar series for Veterans will offer tools, resources and information on some of the military community’s most pressing issues. We invite veterans, military families, community partners and all those interested, to join us for this free and informative webinar series."

Four-Part Free Webinar Series for Veterans During the First Four Weeks of May:

  • Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11 AM: Changes to Benefits for Veterans
    • Verdie Bowen from the State Office of Veterans' Affairs will provide an update on changes to veteran services-connected disabilities, the difference between Veterans benefits and health services, how to apply and an overview of Verdie's Benefits Navigator.
  • Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11 AM: VA Long Term Care Services and Service Animals for Veterans
    • Nicki Addonisio from VA Long Term Care Services will share information on VA Long Term Care Services available to Veterans who are enrolled in VA healthcare & Paws For Purple Hearts will talk about service animals for Veterans
  • Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 11 AM: Caregiving, Hearing and Vision Services from the VA
    • Susan Guillory from Alaska VA Caregiver Support Program will talk about the numerous supports and program for those caring for veterans. Dr Michelle Fornelli will speak to audiology services for veterans with hearing loss and Laura Kabatt-Kennedy will talk about low vision services from the VA.
  • Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11 AM: Scambush -- Veterans are targeted by Scammers
    • Troy Broussard from AARP will share AARP’s Scambush report on how veterans are targeted twice as often any other group. He will also share resources to learn about and avoid scams. AARP has a Fraud Watch Network and The Perfect Scam Podcast to help people become aware of scams.
