A Summer of Impact, Celebration, and Advocacy with AARP Florida

Posted on 07/01/25 by Jeff Johnson

AARP Florida is kicking off a busy summer season. From celebrating 90 successful years of the Social Security program to continuing state advocacy work following legislative session, we are showing up in your corner as a wise friend and fierce defender.

This summer, we’re not just staying busy—we’re staying purposeful. Every event, every conversation, and every initiative is rooted in our commitment to empower Floridians 50+ to live their best lives.

This August marks the 90th anniversary of Social Security—a cornerstone of economic security for millions of Americans. It’s more than a program; it’s a promise. AARP Florida is honoring this milestone with a series of community events, educational forums, and storytelling campaigns that highlight the real-life impact Social Security has had on Floridians. We’re also using this moment to remind policymakers that protecting and strengthening Social Security is critical to all Americans.

As we commemorate this historic milestone, we’re also keeping our eyes on the future—continuing the fight for policies that protect and uplift Floridians 50+.

While the legislative session may be over, our state advocacy work continues. We’re holding lawmakers accountable with the recent publication of the 2025 Legislative Voting Record and pushing forward on key issues like expanding access to affordable housing. We’re also protecting utility customers from unfair rate hikes, most recently fighting against an increased rate proposal from Florida Power and Light.

At AARP Florida, we believe in showing up. Whether it’s in the halls of the Capitol, at a local town hall, or on your social media feed, we’re there—listening, informing, and advocating. We’re proud to be a trusted voice and a fierce defender of the issues that matter most to you and your family.

As we move through this vibrant season, I invite you to join us. Attend an event, become a volunteer, or simply follow us online to stay informed. Together, we can make Florida a place where people of all ages can live with dignity, purpose, and joy.

Here’s to a summer of impact, celebration, and community.
