A Summer of Help for Texas Homeowners: Virtual Law Talk Fridays with AARP and Lone Star Legal Aid

As the economic challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic continue to affect many homeowners across Texas, AARP Texas and Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) have joined forces to launch the Summer of Helping Texas Homeowners and Hopeful Homeowners initiative. This program aims to assist Texans in understanding and managing various aspects of homeownership.

Throughout the last Friday of June, July, and August, the two organizations offer a series of virtual Q&A presentations packed with essential information for current homeowners or those aspiring to become homeowners in Texas. These informative sessions will cover critical topics like the types of mortgages available, understanding property taxes, and debunking myths surrounding homeowners' associations.

On June 30, the discussion focused on preventing mortgage foreclosure. Legal experts from LSLA's Foreclosure Prevention Project and AARP shared insights on the Texas Homeowner Assistance Fund (TXHAF) program, which offers financial assistance to qualified Texas homeowners struggling with mortgages, utility payments, HOA fees, property taxes, and more due to the pandemic. Eligible applicants can even receive up to $65,000 in financial assistance!

Mark your calendars for the final session of the summer on August 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST. This event will delve into how homeowners can navigate property taxes to avoid foreclosure, a subject vital to financial stability.
