60 Seconds with the Candidates in Their Own Words
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —AARP New York today released its 2020 NY 24 video voters guide, entitled “60 Seconds with Candidates,” and featuring five videos with Challenger Dana Balter and Rep. John Katko, both taking one minute to outline their positions on each of five key issues.
The video series builds on AARP New York’s “Protect Voters 50+” campaign to ensure 50-plus voters know where candidates stand on the issues that are important to them and their families.
“Any candidate who hopes to win must address the concerns of voters 50-plus,” said AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel. “This series helps inform the public on where candidates stand on the issues, including protecting Social Security and Medicare, lowering prescription drug prices, helping Americans 50-plus recover economically from the effects of the coronavirus, and ensuring seniors can access safe and affordable long-term care at home and in institutional settings. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure our members get the information they need to choose a candidate that supports their views and values.”

We encourage all New Yorkers to ask questions, so they understand where the candidates stand on important issues when making their decisions this fall.
Each candidate was asked the following questions:
- How will you ensure that current and future Social Security benefits are not cut as part of deficit reduction?
- How will you protect Medicare to ensure seniors continue receiving the affordable health care they have earned?
- How will you help Americans over the age of 50 recover economically from the effects of the coronavirus?
- How will you cut prescription drug prices for all Americans?
- How will you make sure seniors can access safe and affordable long‐term care?
