2nd ANNUAL CAMINANDO JUNTOS: CAREGIVING CONFERENCE

AARP Illinois understands that caregiving is a universal language. And that sometimes, the people working the hardest to take care of their loved ones don’t know how or where to ask for help. That’s why two years ago, we introduced the Caminando Juntos: Caregiving Conference.

The free, bilingual Spanish-dominant conference features:
· support programs and services presentations;
· panel discussions from family caregivers; and
· self-care workshops

In its first year, the conference served hundreds of community members, who learned about the resources available and felt the support of others juggling the demands of daily life while caring for someone they love.

Latino family caregivers in the U.S. spend more of their time and money caring for a loved one when compared with the rest of the population. On average, Latino family caregivers spend 44 percent of their annual income on caregiving-related expenses and dedicate 52 percent more time per week giving care, according to an AARP Research Report, “ Family Caregiving and Out-of-Pocket Costs: 2016 Report.”
