2021 Hurricane Season: Prepare, Respond, Recover, Resources

Posted on 04/01/21 by Juanita Jiménez-Soto

The 2021 hurricane season is in full swing, and as storms threaten the US, it is important to have a safety plan. This season is expected to be an active one. AccuWeather is predicting 16 to 20 named storms, seven to 10 hurricanes, including three to five major hurricanes this year. No one can predict where these storms will hit, which is why it is important to be ready and have a plan. Your hurricane plan should include jugging a storm and a pandemic.

Your "stay kit" (if they planned to ride out a storm) or your "go kit" (should they decide to evacuate) should include hand sanitizer or alcohol-based sanitizing wipes, protective masks, a small bottle of bleach, and latex gloves.

While we cannot predict which communities will be hit by a storm, one thing we can do is monitor the weather and prepare for this type of event.

We at AARP know people who are 50+ sometimes face additional challenges. That’s why AARP is teaming up with the Red Cross in Houston to help you get ready.
