10 Fellows Selected for Walking College in Alaska

Posted on 06/30/23 by The AARP Bulletin

As part of its effort to make communities safer and streets more walkable, AARP Alaska is sponsoring 10 fellows at the Walking College in 2023.

An arm of America Walks — an advocacy and education organization — the online college aims to help people push for pedestrian-safe places in their communities. Fellows in the May-to-September program pick a community problem and then work with mentors on walkability design, coalition building, public policy and strategy. They highlight the benefits of features such as outdoor benches, accessible trails and safe green spaces.

Fellows range from bicycle advocates and academics to city and state planners and health workers; they represent three communities in Alaska.
