Celebrate the lengthening days of spring and approaching arrival of summer with a walk in the woods to catch a glimpse of the colorful blooms of native woodland wildflowers, and enjoy the lush green of ferns. While many spring ephemeral plants fade quickly — forced to bloom before the trees leaf out and the resulting shade slows their growth — other wildflowers bloom later or longer.
Join Roberta Lombardi, botanist and Herbarium Collections Manager at the University of Massachusetts, for a fascinating exploration of woodland wildflowers and ferns at MacLeish Field Station, a 240-acre patchwork of forest and farmland located in West Whately. During this program, you’ll become better acquainted with these native plants found on the forest floor.
Roberta Lombardi has worked with the native flora of Massachusetts and New England for over 30 years, primarily with native habitats and rare species.
The MacLeish Field Station property is owned by Smith College and permanently conserved by Kestrel.
