Vein Screening

Thursday, Jan 24, 2019 at 1:00pm

Faith Regional University
110 North 29th Street
Norfolk, NE 68701

Free

A member of Faith Regional’s vascular team will provide free vein screenings to patients to identify venous reflux disease, varicose veins and spider veins. If venous insufficiency, varicose veins or spider veins are suspected at the screening, next steps and possible treatment options will be discussed.
-Venous Reflux Disease: Venous reflux disease develops when the vein valves stop working properly and allow blood to flow backwards (i.e. reflux) and pool in the lower leg veins. If venous reflux is left untreated, symptoms can worsen over time and can lead to chronic venous insufficiency.
Signs of Venous Reflux Disease:
-Varicose Veins
-Heaviness/Tiredness
-Aching
-Itching
-Swelling
-Open Skin Sores
-Cramping
-Restlessness
-Varicose Veins: Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins. They are most commonly found in legs but can occur anywhere in the body.
-Spider Veins: Spider veins are a milder type of varicose veins. They often look like sunbursts or spider webs, and can be red or blue in color. They are commonly found just under the skin on the legs or face. Spider veins without evidence of venous reflux are typically more of a cosmetic issue.
