Collecting and Contributing in Miami: Gean Moreno in conversation with Daphna Bentata, Jorge Pérez, and Dennis Scholl

This panel discussion will engage Miami-based collectors who, already world-renown for their important collections, have in recent years also sought to make important contributions to the local cultural infrastructure. Jorge Pérez, Daphna Bentata, and Dennis Scholl will not only speak of the artists they are excited by and their strategies for collecting, but delve into their deep commitment to Miami and the responsibility they feel to enlarge and strengthen its institutions and create opportunities for its communities.

The panel will be moderated by Gean Moreno, Director, Art + Research Center ICA Miami.

Art in the Everglades: Helen Toomer in conversation with Rebecca Reeve

Artists in Residence in Everglades (AIRIE) and UNTITLED, ART present a conversation between artist Rebecca Reeve and Helen Toomer about the impact Reeve's 2012 residency in the Everglades National Park had on her photographic practice. They will discuss Reeve's current work, new editions to be shown at the AIRIE Nest Gallery and what she's hoping to accomplish during her AIRIE alumni residency in February 2021.

Rebecca Reeve is a British multidisciplinary artist based in New York. Working in sculpture, painting, and photography she produces site-specific temporal works in the natural environment, often using familial household objects to frame the scene. 

Helen Toomer is Executive Director of Artists in Residence in Everglades (AIRIE) and Co-Founder of Art Mamas Alliance. She is the Co-Founder STONELEAF RETREAT, an artists’ residency and connective space in the Catskill Mountains of New York focused on supporting women and families, which organizes UPSTATE ART WEEKEND.

Cultural Partner Program: PAMM

Black? Diasporic? Feminism, Intersectionality,? and Solidarity in the Age of Protest

Join PAMM for Black Diasporic Feminism, Intersectionality, and Solidarity in the Age of Protest, a panel which highlights the critical role of Black womxn artists and cultural producers within the current social and political landscapes and how Black womxn across the diaspora support and?amplify each other's work and?voices. The discussion will explore how Black womxn’s experience of racism, sexism, and classism are inseparable and how these “isms” and all other isms are being addressed by artists- specifically those on the panel. The conversation will take place in conjunction with special exhibition Allied with Power: African and African Diaspora Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection and will include exhibition artists Genevieve Gaignard, Naudline Pierre, and Deborah Roberts, PAMM Curator María Elena Ortiz, and will be moderated by Marie Vickles, PAMM Director of Education.

A Curatorial Conversation and Studio Visit with artist Suchitra Mattai, curator Rebecca Hart, and gallerist Doug Kacena

Rebecca Hart, Vicki and Kent Logan Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Denver Art Museum, will introduce and contextualize Suchitra Mattai’s work through the lens of the artist’s Indo-Caribbean background and her work’s post-colonial focus.  They will consider the roles of memory and myth in the rewriting and unraveling of colonial histories; the conversation will also explore topics related to migration, displacement, and labor in the Caribbean and its diaspora, as well as the materiality and processes that help to orchestrate investigations of these topics in Mattai’s work. Doug Kacena, Owner of K Contemporary (Booth C8) will moderate the conversation.

A Subtropical Affair Reception in partnership with Mijenta Tequila

Join Good to Know for A Subtropical Affair Reception in partnership with Mijenta Tequila featuring special presentations by Beatriz Chachamovitz with Natasha Tomchin and Charles Levine, as well as performative photography with Robert Andy Coombs. 

A Subtropical Affair is a multi-site exhibition opening in two spaces for Miami Art Week. The main location is at the Center For Subtropical Affairs in Little Haiti and the second is at Low Res Space in Wynwood. A Subtropical Affair features site-responsive artworks concerning environmental issues, the preservation of local ecosystems and our complex relationship to Mother Earth.

Cocktail Hour hosted by The55Project

The55Project is hosting a Virtual Cocktail Hour for a special tour with Omar López-Chahoud, artistic director and curator of the fair. After a brief introduction by Flavia Macuco Pecego, López-Chahoud will be speaking about some of his favorite artworks and galleries to watch. The55Project creates a platform for Brazilian visual artists and cultural projects in the United States through solo projects, collective exhibitions, residencies, public art projects, talks and educational programs, creating opportunities for a dialogue between artists and local communities.
