The race takes place within Hammond Hill State Forest and consists of a 13K loop that is run twice for the 26K and three times (plus a baby loop) for the 42K marathon. The course uses the Finger Lakes Trail and the extensive DEC trail system. The route is marked with colored ribbons and intersections are indicated with orange arrows. These trails are rugged and challenging, but you’ll enjoy the flora—oaks, beeches, maples, and evergreens—as the plant life will be turning bright green and filling in nicely in mid-May. We’re hoping for better weather and less mud in 2020, with the race date two weeks later than in recent years.
There are two unmanned aid stations along the course, plus another at the start/finish area for those running the 26K or 42K. The 2020 race continues with the revised course that avoids the torn-up section of the Finger Lakes Trail off Y4, continuing instead straight along Y4 to Star Stanton Road. This is faster and more “runner-flow-friendly” than the traditional route, though a touch longer.
All runners will be treated to an array of tasty post-race snacks.
