About the Event
Andrea Baker, mezzo soprano, along with Howard Moody, keyboards, and Newman Taylor, washboard, will perform “Tales of Transatlantic Freedom” in the sanctuary of Dennis Union Church at 3 pm. The show, a glorious exploration of our global musical heritage from across oceans and centuries, gives voice to the music of the African diaspora. It is a moving and awe-inspiring musical journey reminding audiences of our shared humanity, our cultural interconnectedness, and our potential for healing and true reconciliation.
“Tales of Transatlantic Freedom” is the second chapter of Ms. Baker’s one-woman series “Sing Sistah Sing” and was written in collaboration with international composer Howard Moody.
A freewill donation will be collected with proceeds from the event donated to the Rose Conservatory, an arts education and performance organization serving the Brockton community.
A pre-concert forum will be held in the DUC Sanctuary with the artist on Thursday, February 6 at 7 pm. Conversation will focus on the development of the program, exploration of the content with time for questions and answers.
For more information about the concert or forum, call the Church Office at 508-385-3543.
