A native of Auburn, AL, Desmond grew up drenched in Gospel, Blues, R&B, and Soul music. As a serene and very observant child, he began singing in his father’s church at two years old. By age six he was playing piano and organ, and by ten he was on to the drum set. Desmond is a 2016  graduate of Berklee College of Music. He has performed for/with the Supreme Court Justice, The Little Rock Nine, Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin’s mother), Lawrence "Larry" Watson, Harvard University, the NAACP, Berry Gordy (founder of Motown), Valerie Simpson, Jenifer Lewis, Nona Hendryx, Harry Belafonte, Mark Wahlberg, and was a top 50 finalists on the 2014 Season of American Idol. DJ is also a songwriter, arranger, musical director, composer and member of the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective (Copenhagen, Denmark)

You can find him performing weekly at top piano bars/lounges all over NYC solo and with his band DJ & the Yams. Their debut album "#1" is scheduled to be released Summer 2021. DJ has been dedicated to social justice and the elevation of humanity on all fronts and is committed to further artist activism.
