Join us in Alamosa, the hub of Colorado’s San Luis Valley, for a Beach-themed ice festival! Carved Ice Sculptures, the Rio Frio 5k on Ice, an icy bonfire, the savory Grub and Pub, the Polar Plunge, and the spinning Ice Carousel highlight this year’s festival!
8:00am - 9:30pm: Race Packet Pick Up/Registration at the Alamosa Senior Center
Come early to pick up your race goodie bag and fuel up on tropical race snacks/drinks. Registration closes at 9:30:00am: .
10:00am: 5th Annual Rio Frio 5k on Ice, Rio Grande near Cole Park
One of:00am: erica’s most unique 5k races kicks off at 10:00am on Saturday, January 25th. This spectacular 5k race is conducted entirely on the majestic frozen Rio Grande. Have you ever run on a frozen river? Not to worry, a small layer of snow offers traction while you take in the magnificent views of the San Juan’s to the West as well as the Sangre de Cristo’s and the Great Sand Dunes to the East from the heart of the San Luis Valley! Runner's World Magazine named this race one of three "editor's picks" for running enthusiasts for 2015. Chip timing and unique “ice-themed” awards enhance this special race for runners of all abilities.

12:00pm: Live Ice Sculpting on Main St.
The talented and award-winning artisans from Colorado Ice Sculptures will return to carve beach-themed ice sculptures. Sculpture building and carving occurs all day along Main St. until the masterpieces are complete; however, from 12:00-3:00 PM the carvers will be putting the final touches on the work. If you've never seen this:00am: azing process, you're in for a real treat. Bring the kids down for interactive family fun including photo opportunities with the sculptures as well as other fun activities.
12:00pm - 3:00pm: Beach Party Downtown
Stop by Downtown for a variety of different beach themed activities and join the celebration! The Info Tent is the hub of the information for the weekend’s activities. Stop by to purchase Grub N Pub tickets and race swag, as well as to learn about other specials offered by the downtown businesses.
2:00pm: Costume Contest and Kiwanis Character Meet and Greet at Info Tent
Boys and Girls, don your best beach- or fantasy-themed costume for a lively good time at this friendly-competition. The contest is held at the Info Tent on San Juan Ave. and Main St. There is no charge to participate, but a parent-signed liability release is required. Sign up starting at 1:30 PM on-site. The first 50 kids are guaranteed a participation award. Prizes will be awarded to the top winners in each age division. Don’t forget to bring your camera! After the contest, all are welcome to meet and snap a photo with our local beach heroes.
3:00pm - 7:00pm: Grub n’ Pub Downtown
Don’t miss this awesome dining event; get your tickets early for one of the weekend’s most popular events- the Grub n’ Pub! Enjoy diverse and tasty fare from Downtown Alamosa’s most popular restaurants. Tickets are good for a sample appetizer and/or a beverage at each of the participating restaurants.
7:00pm: Fire and Ice Bonfire on San Juan Avenue and Main Street
Certainly a highlight of the evening, witness two elements battling it out- Alamosa’s icy bonfire. Watch as a chimney made of ice is lit on fire. Don’t miss this spectacular and unique event that celebrates the glory of the day.
