Reception and Artist Talk - This is America 3

About the Event

Curated by Artist Jamaal Eversley and Gallery Director/Arts and Culture Producer Claudia Fiks with Estey, “This Is America 3” is on display through December 20, 2024, at 3 Harris Street in Newburyport, MA. More than 25 artists reveal the intricate tapestry of our country and call for us all to work together for a better America.

The artist talks start at 7 p.m. and feature Filipe Miguel, Anne Plaisance, Scott Foster, and Jamaal Eversley.

Filipe Miguel invites the audience into the story by weaving folkloric narratives, personal connections and current events into total art installation. Miguel earned an MFA from the University of Connecticut and has exhibited at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Bridgewater State University and in New York. As one of the founding members of Southern New England Artist Community, Miguel has taught fine arts courses at Bridgewater State University and is a Visual Arts Teacher at Barnstable High School.

Anne Plaisance is an award-winning French visual artist living near Boston. She focuses on women empowerment and social justice. She took part in more than 100 exhibitions in the USA, Europe and Asia. Plaisance artworks are in private collections in the US, France, Poland, Belgium, UK, Italy, Japan, and Switzerland.

Scott Foster’s photography strives to capture the moment and share the experience. His images allow the viewer to feel the atmosphere, mood, and emotions of my subject in that moment. As a lover of nature, photography and family, he grew up surrounded by the beautiful hills, valleys and people of Worcester County, MA, and Kanawha County, WV. Foster is a proud father and son, outdoor activity enthusiast, and descendant of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc People who respect the land and all who inhabit it.

Jamaal Eversley hails from Randolph, MA. With a business leadership degree in hand, from Babson College, he has decided to chase after his dreams and passionately pursue his talents as an eccentric abstract artist and intertwine business with the arts to serve the community. Eversley's art strives to be rich, vibrant and colorful. He creates art to spur the juices of creative genius and put the “F” meant for “Fun” back into Fine Arts.

Eversley states that, “We try to show the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly of America. We are doing this as a community to uplift, not tear down. Unity through diversity of voice and thought brings success to the whole. This is the People’s Art Movement. This Is America!”
