Trollwood Performing Arts School is proud to announce its 2019 Mainstage Musical, Freaky Friday! Newly released, Trollwood is excited to bring this classic story of a mother and daughter magically swapping bodies and, as a result, learning what life is like by spending a day in each other’s shoes, live to the Bluestem amphitheater. Filled with numerous positive messages for every age, this humorous musical is sure to entertain all who attend. Trollwood’s production of Freaky Friday is proudly sponsored by Bell Bank.

The composer duo of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, who brought to life the exciting score for Freaky Friday the musical, have long lists of musical theatre credits to their names. This team won awards for their work on both Next to Normal and If/Then. In addition, Tom Kitt was the orchestrator, arranger, and music supervisor for SpongeBob SquarePants, the Broadway musical. He was also the orchestrator for American Idiot. Brian Yorkey is know for his work as a writer and producer on “13 Reasons Why”.

Synopsis from Music Theatre International: The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films (and developed by Disney Theatrical Productions expressly for licensing to theatres), features a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then.

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
