We depart Jackson and travel to Natchez. It sits on the banks of the majestic Mississippi River.
In the mid-1800's two cities vied for the most millionaires - Natchez and New York. See some of the most beautiful homes in America from the time period. At over 30,000 sq. feet, Longwood is the largest octagonal house in America and still unfinished since 1861. Feel the desolation of the war, seeing paint cans and nail kegs still in place. See Melrose including the slave quarters and carriage house.
Stanton Hall is one of Natchez most opulent houses. We will have lunch in the Carriage House Restaurant, located in Stanton Hall. On our way home, we will make a brief stop at Emerald Mounds, the second largest ceremonial mound in the US.
