The Midland Artists Guild Annual Juried Art Exhibition opens this Friday, April 30th at Creative 360. Over 64 works by 23 visual artists will be on display.

“This is always such a compelling show,” remarked Colleen Reed, Creative 360’s program director and exhibit curator.  “We have so many talented artists in the Great Lakes Bay region who submit work for this exhibit and this year is no exception.”

Founded in 1981, the Midland Artists Guild, or MAG as they are affectionately referred to, exists to foster participation and growth in the visual arts. They are committed to supporting artists throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region and membership is open to anyone who participates or has an interest in the visual arts.  They welcome all artists, from beginners to professional.

“Our mission is to offer the support, inspiration and encouragement that our area artists need to keep the creative spirit alive and well,” said MAG President, Carol Nutter. “This has been a bit challenging over the last year or so, but as you will see from the work on display, the pandemic did not impact the creativity of many of our members.  In fact, some might say that they have been more creative over this challenging time period.”

The jurist for the 2021 exhibit is Rich Burns, a visual artist who resides in Bay City. Burns has worked at SVSU for over 25 years.  His airbrush work can be seen in many sites across the state including Darlene’s Designs (Frankenmuth) and the Averill Career Opportunities Center.

Awards will be announced at the opening for Best of Show, Best 2D and 3D Art and Member’s Choice (voting at the reception).  There are also several sponsored awards of Excellence or Merit and a People’s Choice Award which will be announced at the close of the event.

“Creative 360 is really the home base for MAG,” commented director Laura Vosejpka. “They meet here every month to share their work, to learn and to enjoy artistic fellowship. Our missions overlap – fostering the creative experience – so our partnership makes perfect sense.  We are honored to host this important exhibition with them.”

Creative 360 is asking that those planning to attend the opening please call ahead and reserve a seat so that they can plan for the correct numbers and offer a safe and enjoyable evening. As with all exhibits at Creative 360, there is no charge for entry.  The exhibit can also be viewed virtually on the Creative 360 website and many of the works are available for purchase at the center or by phone.

Appropriate health and safety protocols are in place – all guests must wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose and gallery attendance is limited in accordance with the MDHHS guidelines. Guests who are interested in viewing the work during a time where there are fewer people in the building should call the office to determine the best time to visit.
