Growing on bark, logs, soil, and rocks, lichens are more easily spotted and studied when leafy plants are dormant, which makes winter a great time to study them. Explore the variety of lichens at the sanctuary and practice field identification of common lichen types. Bring a hand lens (at least 10x), if you have one, or borrow one of ours. A notepad and close focusing digital camera or smart phone, if you have one, are also useful.
Wear comfortable weather- appropriate clothes and shoes.
Please Note: This program will be conducted in accordance with current Municipal, State, and Mass Audubon Covid-19 protocols. Groups are limited to 11 preregistered participants. Participants are required to wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines. A detailed confirmation letter will be emailed 24 hours before the program.
