The Program - The Holiday Highlight Performance
All Steps and Movements of the Classical School
This segment is a tribute to the Olympic sport of dressage, which advocates the classical principles of horsemanship, meaning the development and preservation of the horse’s natural movements. Classical dressage, as shown at the Olympics and as it will be demonstrated at Tempel Farms, is the culmination of harmony and lightness of movements. Look for harmony, artistry and a high degree of difficulty in this partnership between horse and rider.
The Airs Above the Ground/Work in Hand
In the airs above the ground, you will see gifted stallions perform maneuvers which were originally developed into medieval battle techniques and then refined to their present art form during the late renaissance. These maneuvers have evolved into the following classical forms: the levade, the courbette, and the capriole.
The Long Rein
Only a highly trained horse and experienced trainer are able to demonstrate this partnership. The subtly of communication between horse and rider and elegance of horse movement is what makes this segment a true art.
The Quadrille: Ballet of the White Stallions
The quadrille is often considered the height of classical dressage. It requires great concentration from both horse and rider in order to perform the coordinated program of classical steps with precision and ease. At Tempel Farms, the training of these horses represents many collective years of dressage skills by our riders and trainers and many years of experience by the Lipizzan stallions you will see in action.
