Wear a mask, bring water and snacks. We’ll do the archery complex first. This level trail has some rocks and roots as it meanders through a pleasant forest in Upper Mount Bethel Township. We’ll view archery target stations as we hike. Then we’ll cross Lake Minsi Drive to the long-range archery fields and the Boardwalk around Bear Swamp. In spring this is a good place to view turtles, frogs, tadpoles and spring flowers. We’ll stop at a small pond, and the “nature center,” a 3-sided pavilion. After we return to our cars, we will drive a quarter-mile east to the western parking lot at Minsi Lake. The dam was recently repaired and many fish habitat structures were installed before the lake was filled. It’s a lovely place to see great blue herons, butterflies, and other natural wonders. For our third hike, we’ll walk on the dam breast to the spillway and then retrace our steps to the parking lot.
This walk is appropriate for all ages. Dogs on leash are welcome. Sturdy footwear that can get wet is recommended. Several areas of these trails can be mushy depending on recent rain fall. Bring binoculars/camera to capture spring wildlife and flowers. Bring bug repellent, sun hat and sun screen. Bathrooms: Only at Lake Minsi.
