McKethan Lake Day Use Area is at 15185 Broad Street. This is 0.2 miles north of the Withlachochee State Forest Visitor Center on U.S. Highway 41 north of Brooksville. Meet at the parking lot that is across from the picnic area with restrooms and play structures, at 8:00 a.m. when the park gate opens.
There is normally a fee to enter this park. Payment details will be posted closer to the trip date.
McKethan Lake Day Use Area habitat includes a hardwood hammock, a marsh, and a wetland prairie as well as open water on the lake itself. This provides an opportunity to view a variety of birds including waterfowl, herons, egrets, songbirds and raptors. We will walk on a trail through the hardwood hammock before observing the lake, marsh, and wetland prairie. Total walking distance is approximately 1.5 miles.
You must contact the trip leader to reserve your spot. We observe social distancing and masks are required.
