Come explore your artistic side while learning about the elements of art along with art history to support the lesson. Each class will begin with a mini introduction to an artist, followed by a demo, and then a hands-on project. This course is great for older kids who are looking to deepen their interest in art, an adult with no previous art experience or an accomplished artist who’s just looking to freshen up on various techniques and materials. WEEK 1: LINE Pablo Picasso - Dove, Flowers, Woman - Line drawings: Pencil and Ink WEEK 2: VALUE Edward Weston - Pepper - Pencil grades, Value scales WEEK 3: SHAPE Matisse - Cut paper collage WEEK 4: COLOR Piet Mondrian - Grid painting using only one set of colors: primary, secondary, tertiary WEEK 5: FORM Victor Vasarely - Op Art - Using shape to create the look of 3D form Unit 6: TEXTURE Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night - Painting with a palette knife to create impasto Unit 7: SPACE MC Escher - Tessellations in Art: Positive/Negative space
Age 15 and older.
Dawn Lisko is a longtime resident of Belmar along with her husband and 3 children. She has been a high school art teacher for 25+ years at Red Bank Regional HS teaching various classes from foundations of art to photography. She has a BA in Visual Arts from Rutgers University and a MA in Art Education from Kean University.
