Whether for research, for preservation, or for the joy of personal collecting, people have collected plant specimens for centuries, and many of the examples in The Charleston Museum’s collection were brought in nearly two hundred years ago. A close examination of these wonders of nature shows the variety of forms, colors, leaf shapes, flower blooms and seed growth of these plants. In its new lobby exhibit, Preserving Nature’s Beauty: The Art of Herbaria, the Museum will display examples from its extensive herbarium collection and highlight their exquisite design elements. The exhibit will be an artistic look at these historic plant specimens and will explore the important contributions of botanists and amateur naturalists to Lowcountry natural history.
