Filtered Light! Featuring artists Ty Stroudsburg and Marceil Kazickas
Ty Stroudsburg and Marceil Kazickas share a strong interest in deliberate mark making, the manipulation of color, and the experiential qualities of nature through light. For Stroudsburg, colors, texture, light, and form each suggest elements of the natural world. Since her earliest work, she has been driven by abstraction and experimentation, striving to unify each painting into the pervasive visual quality that sparked its inception. Kazickas’ work interprets the color, texture, light, movement, sound, and smell found in her surroundings, distilling them into an overall experience. Her goal is to elicit an emotional response to the beauty and sensuality of oil paint. “I am painting a fleeting moment or a feeling and letting it move through me and onto the canvas.” This two-person exhibition, the first to feature these two painters side-by-side, will feature medium and large scale oil paintings as well as smaller pastel drawings.
Kazickas, an emerging artist from Sands Point, Long Island, began her art education at the Roslyn School of Painting and has continued to study with mentors including the late Stan Brodsky. Kazickas has shown in numerous group shows from which she has received awards for her work. Based in Southold, Long Island, Stroudsburg is a self-taught artist whose five-decade career – as one of East End’s most celebrated landscape painters – has been consistently inspired by Long Island. Stroudsburg has been shown in exhibitions across the country since 1961, and is now included in several public collections.
