Adam Pendleton: Who Is Queen? transforms MoMA’s Marron Atrium into a floor-to-ceiling multimedia installation encompassed by three wooden scaffolds. The immersive structure will serve as an arena for an ever-shifting program of live events, including screenings, readings, lectures, and musical performances, along with other exhibited material.

With Who Is Queen?, Pendleton offers a response to popular mobilizations of the last decade such as Black Lives Matter and the Occupy movement. The work brings together the structure of musical counterpoint—the folding and unfolding of simultaneous voices—with meditations on protest. On a regular basis, audio documentation of the live events will be edited and mixed back into the larger installation. Functioning like a machine, the installation is regulated by an algorithmic score that presents, documents, collects, and archives material that draws on the voices of figures as disparate as Allan Kaprow, Amiri Baraka, Michael Hardt, Ruby Sales, Malcolm X, and Glenn Gould.

Entry is by advance timed ticket only. Tickets must be reserved online and will not be available at the Museum.

Members do not need to book in advance. An allocation of timed tickets is reserved for members each hour; guest privileges apply.
