We all live under the same sky. Join us at The DoSeum for a special installation by San Antonio-based artist Mark Menjivar. In this immersive display, photographs of the San Antonio sky will adorn The DoSeum lobby, featuring special messages of hope and promise from the youth of our city. This special installation is presented in partnership with CAST Schools.
Artist's Statement:
Under One Sky is a project by artist Mark Menjivar made in collaboration with over 500 students from the CAST School Network. Students were invited to make photographs of the sky above their homes as a way to symbolize our togetherness in a time of social distancing. They also participated in a manifesto writing workshop where they spoke to the kind of city they want to live in. The combination of these images and statements serve as an invitation to transform our city in seen and unseen ways.
Mark Menjivar is a San Antonio-based artist and Assistant Professor in the School of Art and Design at Texas State University. His work focuses on using photography, archives, and stories to create participatory project structures.
The Centers for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) is a network of tuition-free, industry-led, career-themed high schools in San Antonio. CAST’s innovative school model allows students to learn by doing and gain real world experience through internship, job shadowing, and mentorship opportunities, and is among the first of its kind in the state of Texas. The schools include CAST Tech, CAST STEM, CAST Med, CAST Lead and the Advanced Learning Academy.
We would like to thank the H. E. **** Foundation, Annie E. Casey Foundation, CPS Energy, the DoSeum, H-E-B, HOLT CAT, Jungle Disk, Telemundo, and T. Donovan Creative, for their wonderful contributions and support.
